Payroll

Because Mise runs the schedule and the POS, payroll already knows every hour worked and every tip earned. Run bi-weekly or semi-monthly. Pay tips out same-day if you want. Taxes file themselves. Your team — full-time, part-time, contractors, multi-role — handled the way they actually work.

GM doing payroll in the back office on a Sunday
The problem

Bi-weekly payroll is a four-hour Sunday for the GM. Tips alone take an hour.

Hours come from one system. Tips come from another. Tip pool math gets done in a spreadsheet. The numbers get keyed into payroll software a third time. Errors are guaranteed.

How Mise solves it

Hours from the schedule. Tips from the POS. Pay run on auto-pilot.

Because Mise runs the schedule and the POS, payroll already has every number it needs. The manager approves the run; the system files taxes, pushes direct deposit (or prints checks), and pays tips out — instantly to a debit card if your staff want it that way.

01
Schedule + POS = payroll, already done
Because Mise runs the scheduler and the POS, every hour worked and every tip earned is already in the system. Reconciliation happens automatically at shift close. The manager approves the run; nobody re-keys numbers.
02
Face ID clock-in, on any device
Staff clock in and out with Face ID on a back-of-house tablet, the host stand, or their own phone if you allow it. No PINs to share, no buddy punching, no time-card fraud.
03
Configured how your team actually works
Full-time, part-time, or contractor. Hourly or salaried. Multi-department, multi-rate — the same employee can work the line at one rate and the floor at another, paid correctly for each shift on one paystub.
04
Bi-weekly or semi-monthly
Run the cadence your team is used to. Switch when you need to. Mise handles the proration without a support call.
05
Same-day tips, instant if you want
Tips reconcile from the night's POS earnings automatically. Pay them out same-day — 30-minute instant payout to a checking account or debit card, 2–3 business day standard transfer, weekly batch, or rolled into the next paycheck. Set the policy once.
06
Taxes filed automatically
Federal, state, and local — calculated, filed, and paid on schedule. New hire reports, W-2s, 1099s, year-end returns. You sign off when something needs your attention; we don't ask otherwise.
07
Direct deposit or paper checks
Most operators run direct deposit; some still print checks for back-of-house. Mise handles either, no upcharge, no extra setup.
08
Benefits, if you offer them
Health, dental, 401(k), commuter — connect a benefits program and Mise handles the deductions and the filings as part of every run.

questions, answered

The things operators ask first.

How does Face ID clock-in actually work? +
Staff register their face once during onboarding. From then on, they clock in by looking at any device running Mise — a back-of-house tablet, the host stand, or their own phone if you enable it. The system records who, when, and where. No PINs to share, no buddy punching, no time-card edits the next morning.
Can the same employee work multiple roles at different rates? +
Yes. One employee can be a server on Friday, a line cook on Saturday, and a host on Sunday — each shift paid at the right rate for that role, all on one paystub. The schedule and the POS both know which role they're in for each shift.
How do same-day tip payouts actually work? +
After service closes, Mise reconciles tips from the POS. Staff who opted into instant payouts see funds in their checking account or debit card within 30 minutes. Standard payouts arrive in 2–3 business days. You can also batch tips weekly or roll them into the next paycheck. The policy is yours; the math is automatic.
1099 contractors? +
Run alongside W-2 employees in the same payroll. Year-end 1099s file automatically. Useful for the off-site events team, the bookkeeper, the consulting chef.
Benefits — do you offer plans, or just handle deductions? +
We handle the deductions and the filings; you choose the benefits provider. Most operators bring an existing broker or use one of our partner brokers to set up a plan that fits the team.
Multi-state employees? +
Yes — handles employees across state lines, including reciprocal agreements.
Migration from Gusto / ADP / Toast Payroll? +
We import historical data and run a parallel cycle before cutover so you can verify the numbers match before anyone gets paid.
